2023 is the year of Immersion Days at Monash Tech School. The Health Industries Immersion Day marks our sixth Industry Immersion of the year, and it’s only Term 2!
The Health Industry Immersion Day (Health Day) sees students from our partner schools attend Holmesglen Institute to get an in-depth experience into the life of a Health Professional.
On May 22nd, 86 students from Brentwood SC, Highvale SC, Wellington SC, Wheelers Hill SC and South Oakleigh SC attended our fourth Health Day event and the first for 2023. With over 30 Holmesglen staff helping out on the day, there was lots of energy and excitement across the four levels of the Health Sciences Building at the Moorabbin Campus. Students completed three rotations throughout the day, following the journey of an actor patient (Justin) who had been hit by a car on his bicycle.
Experiencing the health industry from the perspective of a nurse, allied health assistant and lab technician, students learnt and practised a vast range of skills. In the nursing rotation, students experienced taking blood pressure, monitoring consciousness and administering fluids. The pathology rotation saw students analyse urine samples and aliquot-centrifuged blood, while the simulation rotation gave students a real-life example of how nurses complete an ISBAR handover. Students also learnt about study options in the health sciences area and heard from experts in a panel-style interview.
Monash Tech School would like to thank Holmesglen staff for helping put on another fantastic Health Industries Immersion Day. With over 90% of students saying they would take part in another Tech School program, we could not be happier with how the day went!
